Deciding to work for a startup can be a big decision. It’s an environment where every aspect of the business is constantly in motion – which some find stressful and unbalancing. However, I find the pace and challenges stimulating. 1 year into my position here, we rebranded – offering the amazing opportunity to shape our new brand and raise the bar in the quality of work we produced. I’ve taken the lead in creating our marketing design systems and assist our product team when necessary to deliver user value faster. Working in UX design at TestGorilla has empowered me to delve into user data, run tests, and optimize our designs & processes.
Through my work, you will notice that I thrive in design roles where I have the opportunity to work with and discuss different mediums. When I joined TestGorilla, they desperately needed visual cohesion between their website, product and communications. This has enabled me to work on every aspect of our design including, socials, video production, product designs – but of course, having the Website design and UX of our website be my main focus.
While our design team lead was on maternity leave, I also took the lead in delivering monthly reports to our leadership team – keeping track of our website traffic over time, team morale, key project milestones and celebrating successful projects within the design team.
Working at Texthelp was a turning point in my career. It was my transition from a design agency setting to working in-house for a B2B and B2C Saas company. It also marked a shift from working waterfall to agile – which is a way of working that I tend to thrive in.
Texthelp is an incredible company based out of Northern Ireland that seeks to close the accessibility gap in education and in the workforce
I freelanced for the global fitness startup HITZone. HITZone aims to make fitness more accessible to average people who find themselves feeling uncomfortable in “traditional” gyms. The HITZone model is to make fitness enjoyable. It’s a premium service that includes access to exclusive patented exercise machines, small group personal training, and nutrition advice.
Working with HITZone, I designed the UX/UI for their global heart rate application. Because this brand has studios across the world, from Kentucky, U.S. to Sydney, Australia, I often needed to work independently since many of the stakeholders lived outside of my local timezone.
The main problem HITZone franchisees faced was their reliance on a third-party heart rate application. This was causing a negative brand perception, especially considering their aim to be a premium service.
I came in and spoke with the owner, helping to flesh out their young brand, and creating the frontend design of their application – working with developers to get it ready for launch.
This Heart rate system is currently being used in all 20 of their global studios.
The collection of pieces I have worked on for Budweiser has been deeply gratifying. I have had the opportunity to work on diverse print and digital projects alike. I have been able to pitch and produce exciting and dynamic design solutions, especially during the venue’s 25th anniversary.
Working with the Canadian branch of Live Nation has been one of the greatest experiences of my career. I was able to take a leading role, delegating projects and coordinating directly with marketing and managing staff for major concerts and events spanning the country.
Having experience with Canada’s largest telecom brand and sub-brands has been fast-paced and exciting. Working on diverse and large scale national campaigns on tight deadlines becomes even more rewarding when you get to see the finished product on site.
